BUSKIN AND BATTEAU RETURN AFTER THIRTEEN YEAR HIATUS

Northeast Folk Duo Back with Stunning Effort Red Shoes & Golden Hearts

New York, NY—With the release of their long-awaited new album, Red Shoes and Golden Hearts, David Buskin and Robin Batteau demonstrate that despite their thirteen-year hiatus - to 1) "Raise kids," and 2) "Take a nap" - they have not lost the ability to mine what the Washington Post calls their "irresistible amalgam of melodic, sensual pop, folkie grit and killer wit." for fresh musical gems. The continuing development and maturation of the two uniquely compatible singer-songwriters ( Buskin on keyboard, Batteau on violin ) has not only yielded a crop of stunning new songs, but they have infused new depth into their earlier material.  Accompanied by virtuosic percussionist Marshal Rosenberg, Buskin and Batteau bring a taste of  "acoustic heaven" [Boston Globe] everywhere they go.

Buskin and Batteau’s songs, which combine rich harmonies and intricate melodies, evoke a wide range of emotions in their audience, ranging from light-hearted amusement to a gentler, compassionate side. The popular duo also brings their unique style and sound to the stage, and their fans have come to expect the unexpected whenever they perform.  Buskin and Batteau have performed with the likes of Bruce Springsteen, YoYo Ma, Bonnie Raitt, James Taylor, and Benny Goodman.  They have performed on Oprah and Entertainment Tonight, as well as prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall.  And their songs have been recorded by Aretha Franklin, Astrud Gilberto, Lucy Kaplansky, and Judy Collins.  They have also shared Grammy, Emmy, Clio, Gold Record Awards as well as an Oscar nomination; and have recorded with Shawn Colvin, Marc Cohn, Tom Rush, Nanci Griffith, and Christine Lavin.

Buskin & Batteau began in earnest when folk legend Tom Rush invited the duo to be his backup band -- with David on piano, guitar and vocals -- Robin on vocals, violin, guitar and mandolin -- and Marshal Rosenberg on percussion. And then suddenly, without warning, B&B went out on their own.  They had made records -- two solo albums for David on Epic (David Buskin and He Used to Treat Her), three duo and group records for Robin on Columbia (Appaloosa, Compton & Batteau in California, and Batteaux); and two records as key members of the band Pierce Arrow for Columbia.  But once B&B got going, things started to snowball.

There were positive reviews and features in Time, People and Musician Magazine –as well as in the New York Times, the Daily News, Washington Post, Boston Globe and Boston Herald.   There were shows from Carnegie Hall to McCabe's Guitar Shop in Santa Monica -- with stops along the way at Passim in Cambridge, the Tin Angel in Philadelphia, the Bottom Line in New York, the Birchmere in D.C. and headlining the Newport Folk Festival.  The two also wrote jingles, including Clio-winners "Heartbeat of America" for Chevrolet from Robin and "We're NBC, Just Watch Us Now" for David.  And then there were Emmy and Grammy-winning charity records and books and TV shows with Marlo Thomas and Chris Cerf and friends ("Free to Be a Family" and "Thanks and Giving")

And through it all they found time to make three B&B records for their own label, Single Wing Records, presaging today's rush of indie artist-owned labels.

"...Versatile, sophisticated...by turns acerbic, funny and plaintive. Buskin and Batteau are breathing new life into the genre of the folk-pop singer/songwriter."—The New York Times
