HOWARD JENNINGS DRAWING BIG-NAME COMPARISONS ON NEW ALBUM
Young Singer/songwriter Channels Tom Petty, Neil Young, Bob Dylan and Jack Johnson on Ready To Listen

New York, NY—Before releasing his new album, Ready to Listen, this past December, New York based singer/songwriter Howard Jennings hit the road for a 16-show run in support of Vertical Horizon, as well as a mini-tour with Rusted Root in November, testing out his new material along the way.  Jennings is no stranger to the big (or let’s say bigger) stage, having also supported Ryan Cabrera, Eve 6, Marcy Playground, Chris Trapper (Push Stars) and John Hampson (Nine Days).  Ready To Listen, Jennings’ first fully produced effort, is his third release and the follow-up to 2008’s Acoustic EP.  And for Jennings, who has been compared to the likes of Jack Johnson, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Dave Matthews, and Tom Petty, those tours proved to be the best testing ground for the new songs.

“The Vertical Horizon tour was the greatest thing that has happened to me thus far, as a musician,” said Jennings.  “Playing in front of hundreds of listeners every night with a similar taste in music, traveling and hanging with such a great and successful/multi-platinum selling band, and being able to share a stage with them - it was such a positive experience for me as a singer-songwriter trying to get my name out there.”

Indeed, Jennings’ authentic performances keep audiences involved, entertained and inspired, taking them through a virtual journey of his soul with both serious and fun-loving songs.  The music is acoustic guitar-driven and features genuine, relatable lyrics as well as warm melodies and an inviting vocal tone.  The first single, “I Belong To You,” was mixed by Jeff Juliano (John Mayer, O.A.R., Dave Matthews Band), and is the type of track that you’ll be humming along with instantly.  And like some of the artists he’s compared to, Jennings is a road warrior, constantly honing his own chops and live show.  In 2009, he played more than 75 shows and traveled more than 25,000 miles in between.  He also just signed a licensing agreement with MTV for potential song placements on shows such as Real World and Keeping Up With the Kardashians

All of Jennings’ recent success is a good thing for more than just boosting a promising career.  It’s also important because he left a full-time consulting job with IBM to pursue a career in music.

“It was one of the toughest decisions I've ever had to make,” he said.  “The schedules were starting to conflict and the choice had to be made. Over the past year, the momentum in my music career has built quickly, and I'm only in my mid-twenties for so long. We might be in the middle of a recession, but I know it was the right decision and I've never felt better in my life.”
