RIYL: Belle & Sebastian, Randy Newman, Ben Folds, Trash Can Sinatras

New York, NYIan McGlynn’s The Summer of Ian digital single campaign, which became sidetracked due to technical difficulties and has lasted almost as a special treat to fans into the fall months, continued late last month with the release of the fourth installment, “We Should Hang In The Museum.”  Like “Listening In,” this track was also written for the Meg Ryan/Antonio Banderas film, “My Mom’s New Boyfriend.”  It wasn’t used in the film officially, however, but that doesn’t mean it’s not one of McGlynn’s best efforts yet.

“If you thought that ‘How Did I Get Here?’ was a bright, bouncy joy, well then, you’re in for a treat,” said McGlynn.

The first single of the series, “Nowhere,” was released on May 26 and was followed by “I Took an Oath on June 23.  “Listening In” followed in September.  The Summer (Autumn) of Ian is the follow up project to McGlynn’s most recent full-length, This Is the Sound, which was released in October 2008.

About Ian McGlynn
Ian McGlynn’s latest full-length album, This Is the Sound, marked the artist’s first time producing, and he did so alongside John Mosloskie (Holler, Wild Rose!).  McGlynn’s goal was to create something organic, cinematic and catchy, and the production team did just that.  Full of warmth, waltz and patented soaring choruses, (not to mention McGlynn’s signature piano sounds, lush organs quirky synths, chiming guitars and glockenspiel), This Is the Sound is not just a declaration—it’s an invitation to listen.

McGlynn’s work has been featured in films such as Off the Black, as well as the Meg Ryan/Antonio Banderas feature, My Mom’s New Boyfriend, and the extreme ski flick One.  In addition to his previous studio work such as Tomorrow’s Taken (2004) and a live album Lemon (2002), McGlynn’s music has also been featured on an internationally released Posies tribute album, as well as his song “Catharsis” landing on a compilation called Other Songs and Dances Vol. 1 alongside iconic artists such as Duncan Sheik.
