JESSE TERRY TO RELEASE DEBUT ALBUM THE RUNNER

Critically Acclaimed Songwriter Showcases Soulful, Timeless Songs As An Artist

Nashville, TN—The saying goes that you can throw a rock and hit a songwriter in the great city of Nashville, but it takes a special aim to find a songwriter as special as Jesse Terry.  Since Terry has made Nashville his permanent home in 2004, he has logged a few years of co-writing and has paid his dues, and is now about to deliver his debut project as an artist, The Runner.  Terry’s music has been described by fans and peers as “soulful” and “timeless,” in part because he is influenced by timeless artists himself, such as Jackson Browne, Neil Young, The Beatles, James Taylor, and The Band; as well as by prolific rocker Ryan Adams.

It was those roots that Terry tried to channel as he set the wheels in motion for The Runner -- to incorporate aspects of rock, folk, and country music.  And if there is anything Terry has learned during his first few years in Nashville, it’s how to tell a story.  “Someone told me after a show recently that when I perform, I am ‘inside of the song’ and that I seem to “feel every word,’” Terry said recently.

Terry also paid just as much attention to the recording of this project as he did the songwriting.  Ethan Mentzer, bass player for the pop/rock group The Click Five, produced the album.  Terry also brought in the likes of legendary slide player Dan Dugmore to play pedal steel, lap steel and dobro; and Grammy nominated mixer Jason Lehning (Emerson Hart, Guster, Josh Rouse) to lend some magic as well.  In addition, Terry’s friends and former band mates from New England contributed to the instrumentation.

After the album’s release and a CD release show at Nashville’s 12th and Porter on April 22, Terry plans to tour regionally in support of The Runner, and to eventually tour the nation and the world.  “My goal with this record is to get my music out to as many people as possible, and to give them a killer live show,” he says.

About Jesse Terry:

Jesse Terry was born and raised in Connecticut, to parents who were musicians, songwriters and singers. It was his parents that infused Jesse’s childhood with music and art, and exposed him to the likes of Jackson Browne, James Taylor, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Paul Simon, Bruce Springsteen and the Beatles.  At a young age, Jesse showed talent as a visual artist and studied with two well-known painters, both of who encouraged him to enter art school. But when his mom gave Jesse her old guitar when he was 19, he decided to put art aside and concentrate solely on music. Both the guitar and songwriting came naturally to Jesse and he was eventually accepted to Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he wound up earning several substantial scholarships and a bachelor’s degree in songwriting/performance.  He also fronted an original rock band in Boston and performed at countless venues throughout the Northeast.  While a senior at Berklee, Jesse won both first and second prize in the prestigious CMT/NSAI song contest. The contest was his introduction to the Nashville scene, where he signed his first publishing deal with Masville Music in August of 2004, a brand new company founded by hit songwriter Mark Alan Springer. Jesse went on to write for the company for the next four and a half years and has lived in Nashville for almost five years.
