MEGAN BURTT
DELIVERS ANOTHER ROCKING SET ON IT AINT’ LOVE
Denver Based Artist Releasing New Album January 19
Denver, CO—Denver based
singer and songwriter
Megan Burtt
is back with another rocking set of tracks on It Ain’t Love,
to be released January 19. The album is Burtt’s first
full-length album, and the follow up to her first two releases, both
EPs, the culmination to a few years of seasoning that include radio
time on KRFC and KSMT in Colorado, as well as a hearty itinerary of
live shows with her band, The Cure for Love.
Burtt’s songwriting style and sound encompass several genres,
including folk, blues, roots, rock and pop—think Americana tinged
classic rock in the vein of Bonnie Raitt and Eric Clapton with a
touch of Delta blues thrown in. That, and as Burtt proclaims, it’s
music that is “all dressed up with a kickass band.” In other words,
there is tremendous chemistry in this project among drummer James
Williams, guitarist Adam Tressler, bassist Louis Cato, and vocalist
Ayo Awosika. The album was co-produced by Megan and the band with
Eddie Jackson, who produced the two most recent James Taylor albums,
and it was recorded at The Belfry in Lafayette, New York.
“The studio was formerly a church,” says Burtt. “They converted it
into a live-in studio. So we all lived in ‘no-wheresville,’
recording 12-14 hours a day making this album. The choir loft is
now the control room, and there are still pews scattered around the
recording space. It was so vibey and it was everything I had
dreamed of.”
That vibe was captured on tape by Burtt and Jackson, who had met in
2005 but did not have the chance before now to work together. And
In addition to the music, Burtt has put some marketing juice into
the project. “I formulated an entire branding project, with a new
logo, merchandise and website design,” she says. “I’m hoping that
it will reflect the image of the music and what I’m trying to
accomplish as an artist.”
And what they are trying to accomplish would be universal exposure,
and continuing to reach a broader audience through touring. To
date, Burtt and The Cure For Love have played shows all along the
East and West Coasts in more than thirty cities including New York,
Boston, Nashville, Austin, Denver, Los Angeles, Seattle, and several
others along the Mississippi Delta. In 2008, she signed a
three-month contract to tour in Vietnam, and she has shared a stage
with Ari Hest, Luka Bloom, Karla Bonoff, Jay Nash, and Shannon
McNally.
Before she became a recording artist, Burtt’s technical skill and
well-written lyrics earned her admission to the highly prestigious
Berklee College of Music. Putting her degree and school-wide
songwriting recognition to use, she received an honorable mention at
the 2006 New York Songwriters Circle Competition, and at the 2009
Rocky Mountain Folk Festival Songwriting Competition. Burtt was a
top five finalist in the 2008 Telluride Bluegrass Competition and
was invited to perform on the main stage for more than 10,000
people. Most recently, she performed at the legendary Red Rocks
Amphitheater with Braddigan (of Dispatch) and Greg Mortenson (Nobel
Peace Prize nominee, and author of Three Cups of Tea) for
his Journey of Hope benefit.
